Pumpkins for Halloween are great for Menopause women too!
Did you know that eating Pumpkin, Pumpkin seeds and pumpkin oil could help ease those Menopause symptoms. Pumpkin seed are a great source of phytoestrogen (compounds found in plants that are comparable to human oestrogen, capable of producing oestrogenic effects in our body) which may help in reducing migraines, blood pressure, hot flashes, joint pain.
In one study, pumpkin seed oil was trialled on post menopausal women with high blood pressure. More than 1 in 3 female adults have some form of cardiovascular disease, which is affected by blood pressure. A study showed that a dose of 2g of pumpkin seed oil daily for 12 weeks decreased blood pressure and reduced other menopausal symptoms.
Pumpkins are also high in Zinc, and we need zinc to keep our immune system strong and healthy, especially during the winter months when viruses are common. Zinc also helps our:
- Skin, helps with eczema, psoriasis, acne
- Bones, together with magnesium and calcium helps keep them strong
- Nervous system, anxiety and stress are common in peri and post menopause
- Nails and shiny hair
- Stabilise our blood sugar, reducing cravings
- Sex Hormones
- Libido yes its good for our sex life and testosterone levels too, plus pumpkin seeds are high in Omega 7 oils that can help reduce vagina dryness, as well as dry skin, dry eyes and mouth
- Brain, memory and focus which is often an issue for us in peri and post menopause
- Moods, pumpkin seeds hep our moods as they contain tryptophan which increase our serotonin levels, helping us to relax.
